A Goofy Movie
Here’s a classic from the 90s. Don’t let the title fool you; though the film features plenty of Goofy’s slapstick antics, it also offers a solid meaningful story…
After Goofy’s son Max pulls off an elaborate stunt at school that earns the wrath of the principal, Goofy is worried his son may be on a dangerous path that may eventually land him in prison. Hoping to bond with Max and set him on the straight and narrow, Goofy decides to take him on a grand road trip for some camping and fishing.
But Max is mortified by the prospect of a road trip with his embarrassing dad, especially as it ruins his planned date with a long-time crush. In a moment of panic, he lies and tells his crush that he and Goofy are going to appear on stage at a huge upcoming concert in LA. Now he’s got to find a way to actually make it there while enduring his father’s earnest but clumsy efforts to bond.
As the father and son clash, viewers may notice that both have something to learn. Goofy is so worried about his son’s future that he doesn’t take the time to try to actually understand him, thinking Max can be easily distracted by simple amusements like a toddler. Meanwhile, Max is so obsessed with impressing his crush that he’s willing to lie and manipulate others, losing perspective on the things that really matter. So while the film is filled with Goofy’s unique brand of comedy, it’s also about the importance of honesty, the value of family bonds, and taking the time to really appreciate others. The film is rated G and appropriate for the whole family.
