Blueback
Growing up in a seaside town in Australia, young Abby loves diving and exploring the underwater world, and one day befriends a magnificent wild groper she names Blueback. Living with her environmentally passionate mother, Abby learns to see the ocean not just as a wonderful hobby, but as a living ecosystem filled with creatures deserving protection and respect.
As Abby matures into a marine biologist, she returns home when her elderly mother suffers a stroke. In an effort to reconnect, Abby revisits her memories of their shared activism against greedy developers and invasive fishermen who threatened their lively bay (and her friendly Blueback’s home), including those uncomfortable moments mother and daughter didn’t see eye to eye.
With beautiful underwater cinematography, Blueback is a reflective family drama that celebrates the bond between humans and nature while reminding us of our role as stewards of God’s creation. The film is rated PG and is family friendly.
