Buddy
It’s the 1930s, and wealthy socialite and animal lover Gertrude Lintz shares her large estate with all sorts of animals, from cats and dogs to geese and chimpanzees. One day she adopts a new animal to nurse him back to health: an infant gorilla whom she affectionately names Buddy.
As Buddy grows into a 300-pound adult, he and Mrs. Lintz form a unique and loving bond. Lintz dresses him and treats him almost like a child, such as teaching him to sit at the dinner table and use cutlery. But, though he can be very affectionate, Buddy is not nearly as easy to control as the other animals, and it becomes clear that his strength makes him a danger when he’s upset. Reluctantly, Mrs. Lintz realizes that she must decide what to do with the gorilla.
Inspired by the 1942 memoirs of the real Gertrude Lintz and her love of animals, Buddy offers a blend of humor, drama, and gentle life lessons about the nature of wild animals and the responsibilities of pet ownership. The film is rated PG and is family-friendly.
