Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Why not start the summer with a classic family musical?
In early 20th century England, eccentric but unlucky inventor Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke) and his two children rescue an old champion racing car from the scrapyard. After repairing it and naming it after the unique sounds it makes, the family heads out for a picnic on the beach.
The film morphs into a whimsical fantasy when Caractacus begins telling his children a story involving their new car, now with superpowers. In this story-within-a-story, a tyrannical king wants nothing more than to get his hands on the super-powered car, and the Potts family find themselves on a fantastical adventure to save both their car and the kingdom from the king’s evil plots.
Based on a novel by Ian Fleming (of James Bond fame) and featuring a screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl, the film offers a unique vehicular fantasy with a number of iconic songs from the songwriting team behind Mary Poppins. The film is rated G and appropriate for the whole family. (Very young viewers may need an intermission given its long runtime.)
