Field of Dreams

Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) is an Iowa farmer who, walking through his cornfields one evening, hears a mysterious voice whispering, “If you build it, he will come.” Despite the strangeness of it, Ray decides to trust the voice and builds a baseball diamond, and before long the ghosts of legendary players from baseball’s past begin emerging from the cornfield to play the game they loved in life. But Ray senses that the field was not built for the ballplayers alone, and that the voice is not finished with him yet.

Following a series of visions, Ray sets out on a road trip that takes him across the country in search of a reclusive writer who never had the chance to play the game as he once dreamed about. Meanwhile, his farm is on the edge of bankruptcy and the people around him question his sanity. Still, Ray presses on, trusting that whatever mysterious purpose set him on this path will be worth it.

Field of Dreams offers a unique blend of drama and fantasy that uses baseball as a window into themes of faith, forgiveness, relationships, and second chances, exploring the idea that the mistakes and regrets that may trouble our hearts throughout life are not necessarily the final word. The film is rated PG and is appropriate for the whole family, though its more reflective tone and emotional depth may resonate more with older children and adults.
