Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis) is a quirky inventor whose latest creation is a shrinking machine that no one believes will work, not even his family. But when his teenage daughter, young son, and two neighbor kids accidentally get caught in the path of the machine’s ray, they find themselves reduced to microscopic size. Now these tiny kids must make their way across the backyard, which has become a dangerous jungle of giant grass, massive insects, and enormous obstacles.

What follows is a thrilling adventure as the miniaturized kids face one peril after another in their quest to return to the house and get their parents’ attention, learning to work together in the process. Meanwhile, their parents frantically search for them, not realizing their children are right under their feet.

This imaginative Disney adventure combines creative special effects (an impressive array of practical effects just before CGI took over the industry) with plenty of humor and heart. Rated PG, the film’s blend of slapstick comedy, action, and themes about family cooperation make for a more light-hearted movie night.
