James and the Giant Peach

This week’s film is a classic adventure from the 90s.

Young James Henry Trotter lives happily with his loving parents until tragedy strikes when they’re killed by a mysterious rhinoceros. Forced to live with his cruel and abusive aunts, James endures endless chores while dreaming of escaping to New York City, a magical place his parents once promised to take him. His lonely existence takes an extraordinary turn when a mysterious stranger gives him a magical gift that accidentally spills near an old peach tree, causing a single peach to grow to enormous proportions.

When James crawls inside the giant peach to escape his aunts’ latest punishment, he discovers a wonderful world of oversized, talking insects who have become his size due to the same magic. Together with his new insect friends, James embarks on an incredible journey across the Atlantic Ocean. As the peach rolls into the sea and the group learns to work together, James learns to face his own deepest fears while heading toward his dream destination.

From the team behind The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach combines live action and stop-motion animation to bring Roald Dahl’s classic story to life. Rated PG for some frightening images, the movie illustrates that even in the darkest circumstances, hope and friendship can transform the most impossible dreams into reality.
