Kensuke’s Kingdom

Young Michael isn’t enjoying his family’s new life on the sea, sailing the world. He’d rather be back home with his dog, whom he secretly stowed away onboard. He manages to keep his dog hidden until one fateful night, when a storm sends him and his dog overboard. After drifting at sea, they wash up on the shore of a remote Pacific island, alone and afraid.

At first, Michael believes he and his dog must survive on their own, foraging for food and seeking shelter. But he soon discovers they’re not alone – the island is home to Kensuke, an elderly Japanese man who has lived there since World War II. Though their relationship begins with mutual distrust, Kensuke gradually becomes Michael’s protector and teacher, showing him how to live on the island while sharing his own story of survival and loss.

Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, Kensuke’s Kingdom is a touching story about unlikely friendship and the power of human connection across cultures and generations. The film is rated PG, but does include some mild violence.
