Lost on a Mountain in Maine
In the summer of 1939, twelve-year-old Donn Fendler and his father and brothers embark on what should be a simple day hike up Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in Maine. When tensions arise between Donn and his demanding father, the boy becomes determined to prove himself by reaching the summit despite an approaching storm. After the family decides to turn back for safety, Donn defiantly pushes ahead, ultimately becoming separated in the storm and finding himself completely alone in the vast wilderness.
With no food, inadequate clothing, and no survival equipment, Donn must rely on his wits and determination to stay alive as he wanders through acres of unforgiving terrain. Meanwhile, his desperate family launches a massive search effort that captures national headlines and draws hundreds of volunteers. As days pass, Donn faces starvation, exposure, and dangerous wildlife while the lingering threat of death leads him to reexamine his actions and his relationship with his family. At the same time, his loved ones back home struggle with the growing possibility that they may never see him again.
Based on Donn Fendler’s own memoir of the same name, the film offers an inspiring true story that delivers powerful messages about family bonds and never giving up hope. The film is rated PG for thematic elements and some intense survival situations.
