Mufasa: The Lion King
This week’s film tells the origin story of one of Disney’s most beloved characters…
When young Mufasa is separated from his parents by a flood, he’s rescued by Taka, a lion prince who becomes his adoptive brother. Despite their very different backgrounds, the two cubs develop a close friendship as they grow up together in Taka’s pride.
But their peaceful life is shattered when a vengeful group of outcast lions attacks their pride, forcing Mufasa and Taka to flee and embark on a dangerous journey to find a new home. Their friendship is tested when a clever lioness joins their quest and grows close to Mufasa, filling Taka with jealousy and obscuring his priorities.
Featuring a number of catchy songs from Moana and Encanto composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mufasa: The Lion King explores the meaning of true leadership while illustrating the ugliness of jealousy and the temptations of power. The film is rated PG, but does include a few scenes that may be frightening to very young viewers.
