Shiloh

When eleven year old Marty discovers a young runaway beagle that has clearly been mistreated by its owner, he quickly falls in love with the dog, whom he names Shiloh, and desperately wants to keep him. But Shiloh belongs to Judd, an abrasive and unfriendly neighbor, and Marty’s father insists that, regardless how much it hurts, the dog must be returned to his legal owner.

Unable to bear the thought of Shiloh suffering at Judd’s hands, Marty secretly begins hiding the dog in the woods behind his house, telling small lies to keep his secret safe. But as the deception grows harder to maintain, Marty is forced to wrestle with one of life’s complicated conundrums: when you know something is wrong, is it ever acceptable to bend the truth to make it right?

Based on Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s Award-winning book, Shiloh is a warm film that takes its young protagonist’s moral dilemma seriously, never offering easy answers about honesty and the difference between what is legal and what is just. The film is rated PG and is family-friendly, though some scenes of animal mistreatment may be upsetting for very young viewers.
