Sleeping Beauty

This week’s film is a Disney classic, bringing to life a timeless fairy tale that’s essential viewing for any Disney fan…

Once upon a time, a king and queen celebrate the birth of their daughter, Princess Aurora, by inviting the good fairies of the kingdom to bless the child. But the uninvited wicked fairy Maleficent interrupts the festivities and curses the child: before her sixteenth birthday, she’s fated to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall into a death-like sleep.

To protect Aurora from the curse, the three good fairies whisk her away to a hidden cottage in the woods, where she grows up unaware of her royal identity or the dark fate that awaits her. And when she finally learns the truth and returns to the castle, Maleficent’s curse proves impossible to avoid, and only the brave heart of a young prince can battle the wicked fairy and break the curse.

Sleeping Beauty offers a simple but memorable tale of good triumphing over evil. Disney’s most expensive film in its time, the film is a visual treat, featuring richly painted backgrounds inspired by medieval tapestry art, while the sinister Maleficent remains one of Disney’s most iconic villains. The film is rated G and is family-friendly.
