The Boys in the Boat

It’s 1936. When college student Joe Rantz has trouble finding the money for his tuition fees, he tries out for the school’s rowing team purely out of necessity, as securing a spot on the team would give him the means to stay in school. Although he has no rowing experience, he is relieved to make it on the junior varsity team.

As the varsity and junior varsity teams practice against each other, the coach decides it’s the junior varsity team that has a better chance of making it to the Olympics, a risky decision not everyone agrees with. Now Joe will have to keep up a grueling routine to stay on the team, a task made all the more difficult when his father, who abandoned his family years ago, shows up in town, forcing Joe to confront a traumatic past.

Based on the true underdog story of the USA’s rowing team in the 1936 Olympics, The Boys in the Boat is an inspiring sports drama that explores the value of discipline and the power of teamwork. The film is rated PG-13 for some mild language and is more appropriate for older viewers.
