The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

This week’s film is the sequel to The LEGO Movie.

Five years after the events of the first film, Bricksburg has transformed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland appropriately called Apocalypseburg, constantly under attack by LEGO DUPLO invaders from the Systar System. When these colorful aliens kidnap Lucy, Batman, and several other characters, Emmett embarks on a desperate mission to save his friends and restore peace to their world.

As Emmett journeys through strange new worlds filled with glitter, pop music, and pastel colors, he begins to question everything he thought he knew about what it means to be special and heroic. Meanwhile, the kidnapped characters find themselves in the mysterious Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi’s domain, where they’re invited to a wedding ceremony that may hold the key to ending the conflict between their worlds. But they must hurry, as Armamageddon, a catastrophic event that could destroy everything, is approaching fast, and if Emmett is to succeed in his mission, he’ll have to learn that being truly awesome doesn’t always mean being the toughest guy around.

While this sequel is admittedly not as thematically deep as the original, it creatively (and hilariously) expands the LEGO universe while exploring the nature of growing up, sibling relationships, and finding balance between different ways of playing and being creative. Like the original, the film is rated PG for some mild action and rude humor, ultimately celebrating creativity and cooperation.
