You Gotta Believe
In Fort Worth, Texas, best friends Bobby (Luke Wilson) and Jon (Greg Kinnear) coach their sons’ struggling Little League team, a group of disinterested players just waiting for the season to end. Their world is upended when Bobby suddenly collapses during practice and is diagnosed with cancer, forcing him to step away from coaching. At the same time, the team unexpectedly receives an invitation to the 2002 Little League World Series, presenting an opportunity that Bobby and Jon believe could be transformative for the boys.
With Bobby undergoing chemotherapy, Jon steps out of his comfort zone to take the helm. Against all odds, the boys begin to improve and qualify for the World Series, and are excited to advance through the tournament. But tensions begin to rise among the players as their original coach’s illness weighs on them, and some begin to question the worth of the game.
Based on the true story of the Fort Worth All-Stars, You Gotta Believe offers a compelling underdog sports story while exploring the deeper question of what truly matters when facing life’s most difficult challenges. The film is rated PG, but deals with the painful reality of terminal illness. However, it handles the subject with sensitivity, celebrating family and showing how a community can rally together in times of crisis.
