SHU Journey is an extraordinary five-day summer experience for high school youth. We invite you to join in this dynamic week with your peers and three of our own college students who will lead you in an exploration of faith, in small group conversations learning about yourself and real life issues, in sharing profound prayer, liturgies and excellent music, providing service in the community, hearing famous Catholic leaders, and participating in fun activities on a beautiful, vibrant, spiritually rich and welcoming college campus.
Why should I attend SHU Journey?
SHU Journey is for those high school students who want to develop their ability to become a leader in their Church and school, deepen their self-awareness and develop a greater sense of direction and purpose in their life, become more motivated in school and activities, develop strong family and personal relationships, increase awareness of their own gifts and their role as a young man or woman in the Church. High school students who are involved in their churches, campus ministry, music ministry and community service are all students who will benefit greatly from partaking in SHU Journey.
What does the week include?
SHU Journey is a five-day (no nights) experience which includes exciting activities, events, and experiences including faith instruction, small group conversations about real life issues, music ministry, prayer, reflection, and daily Mass. Lunch and snacks are included too.
When and where?
SHU Journey takes place on the beautiful campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. SHU Journey will be Monday June 28 - Friday July 2. The program runs each day from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Each day, participants will return to campus after a restful night at their own homes.
Who can attend?
SHU Journey is designed for Catholic students who have completed their freshman year and not yet entered their senior year and are interested in growing in and becoming leaders in their faith.
How much does it cost and how do I apply?
There are no costs. This Summer Theology Institute is funded by the Lilly Endowment. Everyone selected to participate in this program will receive a $300 scholarship. Only 15 high school youth can be accepted for this Summer Institute. Application forms must be submitted no later than May 15, 2021. Accepted applicants will be notified at that time. To apply, complete the form below. After May 15th, those accepted to the program will be notified.
If a group is applying, please have each individual complete a separate application and note on the form the name of the group with which they are affiliated.
Safety and Supervision
The campus of Sacred Heart University is extremely safe. It is situated in the suburb of north Fairfield. Three college student mentors, the director of the Institute, the coordinator of Diocesan Youth Programs, and SHU Faculty will be part of the Institute Students will be supervised at all times. All SHU Journey faculty and staff members will have completed the VIRTUS training for the Diocese.
