The Hill
Rickey Hill is a young boy who loves playing baseball, though it’s not easy with the leg braces he’s forced to wear due to a degenerative spinal condition. His overbearing father (Dennis Quaid), who works as a strict small town pastor, disapproves of Rickey playing the sport, fearing he’ll hurt himself. When Rickey decides to join the local baseball team, he realizes he’ll have to do it behind his father’s back.
As Rickey’s talent for baseball grows through the years, so does the rift between him and his disapproving father. When Rickey breaks his foot while playing, it seems like the final straw, with his father outright forbidding Rickey from stepping onto a baseball field again. Still, Rickey is unwilling to give up the game so easily.
Inspired by a true story, The Hill offers an uplifting underdog tale about perseverance while exploring the role of faith in pursuit of one’s dreams. The film is rated PG, but does include some mild language and a few moments of intense drama.
