The Secret of NIMH

Mrs. Brisby, a field mouse, is a widowed mother living with her four children in a cinder block on a farm. When she learns that her home will soon be destroyed by the farmer’s plow, she sets out in search of help.

Her quest leads her to the rats of NIMH, a superintelligent but mysterious colony of rodents. They have the power to help her move her home, but not all the rats care about her plight, and Mrs. Brisby finds the fate of her family tangled in a power struggle among the rats’ leadership.

Based on the 1971 book by Catholic writer Robert C. O’Brien, The Secret of NIMH tells a simple story, yet is packed with valuable lessons illustrated through Mrs. Brisby’s unending perseverance, showcasing that love and courage are two sides of the same coin. The film is rated G, but some animated violence and some dark, intense moments may be unsuitable for very young viewers.
