Pope Francis On Social Media

During World Day of Social Communications Pope Francis met with Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, during which the Pope proclaimed “text messages, and social networks are a gift from God”. While the Pope views the internet and social networks as a powerful tool for communication, encouragement, evangelization, Francis also warns us against “unfair attacks” saying “…they can also lead to further polarization and division between individuals and groups. The digital world is a public square, a meeting-place where we can either encourage or demean one another, engage in a meaningful discussion or unfair attacks…” In conclusion, we should use social media as a tool to communicate and encourage one another, rather than one that destroys and harms.
