The Diocese of Bridgeport is accepting applications for the 2023 Catholic Scouting Awards

BRIDGEPORT — The Diocese of Bridgeport is accepting applications for the 2023 Catholic Scouting Awards, which will be awarded during a ceremony on Friday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Aloysius Parish in New Canaan.

Scouts interested in receiving an award should submit their applications via email to Astrid Alvarez by regular mail to her at the Catholic Center, 238 Jewett Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06606 in order to participate in the ceremony. The deadline to submit applications is May 1, 2023, she said. Applications can be found in the workbooks for the particular award.

“Catholic Scouting promotes spiritual and character development of the Scouts involved,” Alvarez said. “Through the Catholic Scouting emblem application, the diocese accompanies families in their encounter with Christ and helps strengthen their faith.”

Stephen V. Prostor, the Committee Chair of Scouts BSA Troop 45 in New Canaan, said the Catholic Religious Emblem Awards are elective awards that Scouts can earn, which encourage them to further develop and deepen their faith.

He said Scouting in a Catholic context gives families and young people a greater appreciation of their call to holiness and service. It also provides them an opportunity to evangelize and bring others closer to Christ by giving witness to the values Scouting espouses.
