This 2019 film follows Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan), a graduate from Harvard Law who travels to Alabama to represent those who cannot afford their own lawyers. He begins representing Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a Black man who has been sentenced to death row for a crime he didn’t commit. It is based on a true story that occurred in 1989, written about in Stevenson’s memoir of the same name.
