Slumberland
Nemo lives in a lighthouse with her father, who enjoys telling her fantastical stories of his past. But when her father dies, she’s sent to live with her estranged uncle who isn’t sure how to connect with her. She soon begins dreaming of an outlaw called Flip, an old friend of her father’s, who is searching through Slumberland, the world of dreams, for a treasure.
Nemo is eager to join Flip on his adventures in Slumberland, hoping for a chance to see her father again. But the more she journeys through the world of dreams, the more distant she grows from reality, leaving life’s problems unresolved.
Very loosely based on the old Winsor McCay comic strips, Slumberland balances a fun and fantastical adventure with a kid-friendly exploration of grief, warning against the temptation to run away from the inherent difficulties of life. The film is rated PG, but does include some minor crude language and humor.
