8-Bit Christmas

As Christmas approaches, Jake Doyle’s daughter begs for a phone for Christmas, inspiring Jake to recount a particular Christmas of his own in the late 80’s, when all he wanted was the newest video game system, the original Nintendo.

As the film flashes back to his childhood, we see Jake’s obsession with getting his hands on the gaming system, from trying to win a fund-raising contest to more elaborate and comical schemes, all while dealing with a tough-love father and growing anti-video game sentiments among the community.

But for all its over-the-top comedy, the film ultimately affirms that obsessing over specific gifts for Christmas isn’t such a great way to spend the holiday season, as it makes it that much easier to miss the things that truly matter. The film is family-friendly, but does include some crude humor and minor language.
