The Mighty Ducks
This week’s film is a comedic sports drama from the 90s.
Gordon Bombay is a successful but arrogant attorney, but his career is put on ice when he’s arrested for drunk driving and is forced to coach a Pee-Wee hockey team for community service. The job will not be easy. Gordon used to be a hockey player himself, but no longer cares much for the game, and his rowdy team has very little discipline, proper equipment, or even talent.
Contention between the players and their coach only grows when Gordon encourages the players to cheat by faking falls and injuries for penalty shots. Gordon soon realizes that if he wants to truly connect with his team, he’ll have to rekindle his love for the sport and give his players some true and honest attention.
While The Mighty Ducks may be a bit predictable for seasoned movie watchers, the story encourages teamwork and honest effort, recognizing that winning isn’t the most important thing. The movie is rated PG, but does include some mild violence, language, and crude humor.
