The Witches
Nine year old Luke and his grandmother are spending the summer at a seaside hotel, where Luke discovers a large convention of child-hating witches taking place. Eavesdropping on their plans, Luke discovers that the witches are plotting to turn all the children in the world into mice by hiding a magic potion in candy shops all over the globe.
Unfortunately, before Luke can warn anybody, the witches discover him and, of course, turn him into a mouse. He’s able to escape before any more harm comes to him, but being a mouse will make it that much more difficult to put a stop to the witches’ evil plans before it’s too late.
Based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl and produced by muppet creator Jim Henson, The Witches is a fun light-hearted family-friendly adventure, though some images of extremely ugly witches may be too scary for very young viewers.
(While the original film from 1990 features puppets, eccentric makeup, and practical effects, a 2020 remake featuring modern CGI and some slight story variations is also available, but may be a bit more difficult to find.)
